When it comes to gaming, the smallest details can make the biggest difference. The right accessories, combined with an ergonomic setup, can take your game to the next level. But some things are more challenging than others when you’re trying to get everything just so. A wireless keyboard is no small detail when it comes to gaming. Sure they cut down on cables and give you more freedom of movement, but that also makes them a challenge for gamers. Are wireless keyboards good for gaming? Let’s find out!

Are Wireless Keyboards Good For Gaming?‍

The vast majority of wireless keyboards are made for use on a computer, with the exception of the ones that allow you to use them as standalone gaming peripherals. While they’re great for playing games on your computer, they’re not ideal. There are a number of things that make them bad for gaming, which we’ll discuss below.

Pros Of Wireless Keyboards For Gaming

    • No cable to get in the way.
    • Wireless keyboards are great for typing, especially if you’re on a laptop.
    • Can be used anywhere, even on your lap.
    • No cables to deal with when moving from room to room.
    • If a wireless keyboard breaks, it’s not too expensive to replace (compared to a wired keyboard).
    • There are many different types of wireless keyboards available, so you can find one that fits your needs and budget.
    • You can use them anywhere, as long as you have Bluetooth-enabled devices nearby (such as your phone or computer).
    • No need to charge a battery (just keep the keyboard plugged in).
    • Some wireless keyboards have a built-in stand, which allows you to place the keyboard on a flat surface and use it as a laptop.
    • You can also use them with multiple devices at once, so you can switch back and forth between your phone, tablet, or computer for different apps and games.
    • Many different styles of wireless keyboards are available that making it easier to find one that suits your style (or matches your decor).
    • Some wireless keyboards have additional features such as programmable keys or backlit keys, which can be useful for gamers who play in low light conditions or need easy access to specific keys in games such as shooters where you need to be able to see where you’re aiming accurately without having to read the keypad.

Cons Of Wireless Keyboards For Gaming

    Lack of Consistency

Wireless keyboards are more susceptible to connection issues, lag, and interference. This can throw off your game. Wired keyboards are consistent and reliable.

    Wireless Keyboards Can Be Unreliable

Many people find that wireless keyboards are less reliable than wired ones. This is especially true if you’re a gamer who plays on multiple computers, or even if you frequently switch between multiple computers for work or school projects.

    Can Be More Expensive

Wireless keyboards can be more expensive than wired ones, especially if you want a high-end keyboard with an LED backlight or special features like media buttons and software support for macros and shortcuts.

    Can Be Less Portable

In general, wireless keyboards are bulkier than their wired counterparts because they’re larger in size to accommodate the Bluetooth receiver as well as the battery pack that powers the keyboard’s internal circuitry.

No Functionality For Gaming Macros And Shortcuts

You won’t be able to use gaming macros with a wireless keyboard because of its lack of ability to detect the presence of a USB receiver (this is also why many gaming keyboards don’t come with built-in rechargeable batteries).

Wireless Keyboards Are More Susceptible To Connection Issues

If you use a wireless keyboard for gaming, you’re much more likely to experience connection issues. The lag and interference can throw off your game.

    Final Words

If you’re looking to make the switch to a wireless keyboard but are worried about the drawbacks, don’t be. There are plenty of models that can offer the same functionality as a wired keyboard. Keep in mind, though, that no matter which type of keyboard you choose, you have to make sure it’s compatible with your gaming setup. Make sure to check the keyboard layout, onboard functionality, and connection type before you make your purchase. This will ensure you get the most out of your new gaming keyboard.
