Haggerty’s ‘Pairings’ shows unexpected parallels

From Oct. 14 to Jan. 17, the Haggerty Museum of Art is presenting an exhibition that uses the power of context to its full potential. “Pairings” presents works from the Haggerty’s collection in a completely innovative manner. Throughout the museum, visitors can be surprised and intrigued by the juxtaposition of works that may appear unrelated upon first glance.
Upon further examination, however, it is clear that the placement of the art is strategic. Works are “paired” based on different themes or elements common among the pieces.

The First Earth Battalion may sound like a role-playing card game popular with teenage boys. However, it’s actually a U.S. Military division and the basis for the film “Men Who Stare at Goats.” Released last Friday, the flick is about a group of psychic spies, called the New Earth Army in the film. It takes place in various time periods from the 1970s amidst the Vietnam War to the early 2000s during the Iraq war.

We be jammin’ at Mad Planet’s reggae night

Last weekend, the lame vibes could be felt all over campus. Consequently, it was necessary to discover other forms of entertainment and colorful events Milwaukee — like a Reggae dance party at a rock club. Last Saturday night Mad Planet, 533 E. Center St., held Reggae night from 9 p.m. to about 2 a.m. The event was presented by Chalice in the Palace. A dance party ensued and music was deejayed by DJ Avets, DJ Suresh, DJ Eltronix, DJ Prince Ruff and DJ Marcus Garvey. Drink specials included $3 Red Stripe and $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon.
